Epcot Entrances

Spaceship Earth

To all who come to this place of joy, hope of not too much coffee in the morning, and plentiful bathrooms for all, welcome.

-E. Card Walker’s opening ceremony speech rough draft

What is Epcot anyway?  Formerly an acronym for “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow,” it is now its own word.  Just like “Kleenex” or “laser” or something.  Some would say that Epcot now stands for nothing.  I would say that’s a rather fatalist view for a set of great experiences that make up this park.  Epcot stands for Discovery – it is where we learn about who we are, where we have come from, and especially where we are going.

Here’s where I’m going.

It is this third item, where we are going, that especially intrigues this author.  After all, it is the primary purpose of this blog.  As Marty Sklar once wrote about Epcot: “The emphasis is on possibilities.”  And boy, do the entrances to Epcot have possibilities.

There are many ways to get to Epcot.  You can walk along the Boardwalk to the boring International Gateway entrance, you can take the monorail, or you can drive or bus your way right to the main parking lot.

Monorail

Besides by parachute, this is my favorite way to get to Epcot.

Whether you arrive by bus, car, or monorail (I exclude “by foot” here because if you walked to Epcot’s front entrance, you’re a crazy person and I will not acknowledge you), you have two – that’s right, count ’em – possibilities for rest stops.  If you take the lame International Gateway entrance, there is but one.

International Gateway Restroom – Thanks for the picture, Carla!

Approach Epcot from the parking lot, and you’ll visit the first Entrance restroom on the right side (AKA the Living World side).

Entrance Restroom the First.

This restroom is located before bag check.  If you pass by this one, you still have an opportunity to go before entering the park.  After bag check and along the box office to the left side (AKA Innovation side), you’ll find another, rather hidden restroom.

Under the awning on the left. See previous closeup picture as well. Hidden!

These are two great choices!

Approach from the International Gateway, and you have the one restroom to choose from.

Thanks for the picture again, Carla!

If you skip this one in favor of getting into the park as quickly as possible, then you’ll want to take a Merry Old Trip to Merry Old England.

I’ve touched before on the way to maneuver around Magic Kingdom’s and Disneyland’s entrances.  Epcot’s are much the same – before rope drop (is it called that at Epcot?), these restrooms can be busy!  But if you gotta go, you gotta go.  If you can hold it until you’re inside this park of Discovery, then why not discover Spaceship Earth’s offerings?

I vote Innovation side during the day, Living World side at night.
