Rafiki’s Restrooms are isolated. Very isolated. Due to this isolation, they can be a crowded mess. That article is the last time you will ever hear me mention isolated restrooms at Animal Kingdom again. The park is absolutely loaded with restrooms, and with the recent Harambe/Lion King expansion, we are blessed with even more.
One such location of abundance is on Discovery Island, with restrooms at Pizzafari and across from Flame Tree Barbecue. There’s one more spot, curiously not listed in the mydisneyexperience app.
These restrooms are located at the entrance to Africa, at the First Aid station. It is right next to the appropriately named “Creature Comforts” shop.
Before 1999, if you were headed to Discovery Island, you were headed somewhere very different than you are today. Today, if you try going to that same island, you are probably headed to jail.
Discovery Island is now home to a non-living Tree of Life, an attraction, a couple of restaurants, and three (yes, three!) sets of restrooms. The First Aid restroom, however, is quite strange. Though not listed in the app, it is listed on the park map.
It also is the only Pet Stop I’ve found in all of Walt Disney World that has an extra sign.
It is also literally right next door to Pizzafari, which houses more restrooms.
There is only one explanation for this abundance of restrooms in such a small area.
This attraction scares the -AHEM- out of me, you, your children, your children’s children, your parents, and your grandparents. The Disney Imagineers, who are so smart and innovative, knew that fact and planned accordingly. So after seeing “It’s Tough to be a Bug,” take a Discovery Island trail right to the First Aid Station. Get some relief, and get some medicine for your shock due to extreme fear. Then try to find your way out of the park.
